having a desk is essential.

posted 9 months ago

this past weekend, I decided to do something I should’ve done this same time last year.

backstory: last september, i decided I needed to redo my room. my bed was too small, my desk too small; thus, redo. so I went out and got a new (bigger) bed, and a new sleek, more modern (bigger) desk. wanting the comfort, I set up my new bed immediately. and boy was/is it comfortable. but the desk, I set up the frame and never took the time to finish it. so, I just did my work from my bed, and while I got it all done, there were a few nights where I simply fell asleep while working, waking up at 6 in the morning with my laptop next to me, books scattered over my body.

so, summer came and since I had no real work to do over summer, I just let the desk remain unfinished.

but then school started again. and the same process began: late nights, crappy work, etc. so this past weekend, i (with major push from my parents) decided to finish the desk.

basically: it is nice to have a desk. now i’ve got an actual setup that is meant for working. I’ve got my laptop (which will soon be hooked up to a 24” LED Cinema Display), some nice Altec Lansing speakers, a keyboard, and (come tomorrow) a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch will become my mouse (it’s hard to go back to a regular mouse after using the MBP trackpad). productivity wise, i’m getting at least two hours more of sleep a night because I’m actually getting work done and i’m much more relaxed because I’m not running around school jittery for not getting my work done.

and I’ve found a new iPhone application that is INCREDIBLE for school: iStudiez Pro. it lets you input all of your courses, different class times, and assignments - great for school productivity.
